Covering the bases 9/28/2025: Brewers 4, Reds 2 (club-record 97 wins)

In a season that featured 11- and 14-game winning streaks that led the Milwaukee Brewers to posting the best record in MLB, the Crew finished the regular season by setting a club record for victories in a season with a 4-2 win over Cincinnati Reds on Sunday at American Family Field. The Brewers, who won their third straight NL Central title after starting the season 0-4, posted a 97-65 record. The Brewers won 96 games in 2008 and 2011. The Reds, meanwhile, still earned a trip to the postseason with the New York Mets' 4-0 loss to the Miami Marlins.

FIRST BASE: Chourio heating up

After homering Saturday, Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio finished the regular season with two more hits in five plate appearances. Chourio had one of four Brewers doubles and scored twice.

SECOND BASE: Peralta's prep

Brewers right-hander Freddy Peralta, the NL leader in wins with 17, started in an abbreviated tune-up for his anticipated start in Game 1 of the NL Division Series on Saturday. Peralta went two innings, allowing one run on three hits and no walks, striking out three. He did give up a solo home run to Reds superstar Elly De La Cruz in the second inning.

THIRD BASE: Megill returns

Closer Trevor Megill, who missed the last month with a strained right flexor tendon, was activated from the 15-day injured list and pitched a perfect third inning, striking out two. Megill topped out at 98.1 mph and applauded his own effort as he walked off the mound following a strikeout. Left-hander DL Hall also came off the 15-day IL following a strained right oblique, pitched the third inning, allowing two hits, including a solo homer to TJ Friedl, with no walks or strikeouts.

HOME PLATE: Next stop – the postseason

Having locked down the No. 1 seed not only in the NL, but in all of MLB, the Brewers will now get ready for the postseason. They will stay sharp during the week with various workouts as they watch the San Diego Padres and Chicago Cubs battle in a Wild Card Series for the chance to face the Crew in the NL Division Series beginning Saturday.
